Jewish Christmas Stocking

Our family's christmas stockings all look the same and have for generations. Ari and I shared our holiday traditions with each other this year, so I made him a mini-stocking (not a full sized one since he's Jewish) so that he could partake in our Christmas traditions.

Grandma's Mittens

Another project designed to help me use up scraps. Also, I lined these with micro fleece for extra warm-coziness.

Peacock Feathers

This year for the Procession of the Species in Olympia, I tried my hand at batik, and handmade my feathers for my peacock costume. Batik is done by painting with wax and then painting with dye, so that the wax resists the dye (the white areas). These are just ripped up sheets, which I then attached to wire feathers, adorned with glitter, and fashioned onto a throw-away backpack. The costume turned out beautifully!

Dinosaur Purse

I tried to make Ari some silly dinosaur socks, but they weren't stretchy enough. So, the project turned into a little dinosaur bag. Kinda cute right?

Funky Gloves

I was commissoned to make these gloves for Linn, the owner of the wonderful and whimsical Ear Candy Arts. I wanted to make something in the spirit of her earrings, asymmetrical, funky, and fun. This is what I came up with, and she loved them!

Pi Earrings

Good earrings to have for a nerdy occasion, I made them for Pi Day, particularly to impress a nerdy boy. Needless to say, it worked like a charm.

I made these out of buttons, mod podge, tissue paper, paper, sharpie, earring hooks, and wire. The pi symbol (which could be substituted for a different favorite math symbol) is drawn onto little paper circles with sharpie. I secured the wire in and around the buttons leaving a long piece at the top, and then decoupaged the button with green tissue paper and mod podge. Then everything is just glued together, allowed to dry, and attached to the earring hooks.
