This year for the Procession of the Species in Olympia, I tried my hand at batik, and handmade my feathers for my peacock costume. Batik is done by painting with wax and then painting with dye, so that the wax resists the dye (the white areas). These are just ripped up sheets, which I then attached to wire feathers, adorned with glitter, and fashioned onto a throw-away backpack. The costume turned out beautifully!
